A Chinese chef, who has been living in Ireland for more than 16 years, secured a last-minute reprieve from the High Court yesterday when it issued an order halting his deportation.
Mr Bing Lian Yan, of Lotus House, Parliament Street, Kilkenny, got a temporary injunction restraining his deportation before another court hearing takes place on Monday. The deportation was scheduled for yesterday afternoon.
Mr Justice Geoghegan also granted Mr Yan leave to seek an order quashing the decision of the Minister for Justice to deport him.
