Department urges Irish visitors to be cautious in troubled state

THE DEPARTMENT of Foreign Affairs has again warned Irish visitors to Thailand to be careful in Bangkok and other areas.

THE DEPARTMENT of Foreign Affairs has again warned Irish visitors to Thailand to be careful in Bangkok and other areas.

“The political situation in Thailand remains highly volatile and uncertain . . . Irish citizens should be aware of this if planning to travel to or through Thailand,” it says.

The department advises against all non-essential travel in the Bangkok area and says visitors should avoid demonstrations and public gatherings as well as government buildings, state institutions and universities throughout the country. “Irish citizens should curtail their movements as necessary and follow local advice on where not to go,” it adds.

The department recommends that Irish people in Thailand keep themselves informed of developments via the media and internet, and says travellers should confirm plans with their airline carrier, travel agent or tour operator.
