Dell is targeting a market share of 25-40% of the global PC market from its current 13 per cent, Dell chairman Mr Michael Dell said today in an exclusive interview with Italian weekly Il Mondo.
"I would be pleased if the market share rose to 25 or 40 per cent in the next years and I do not exclude the possibility of alliances," Mr Dell said.
"I must say though that a strategy of acquisitions is not one that attracts us. Until now we have been able to grow organically. We are trying to continue that way," he said.
Mr Dell said the company has boosted sales by 19 per cent last year against an industry contraction of 3-4 per cent.
Dell said the US economy currently does not look good.
But he said even if a US recession does materalise, Dell’s cost structure is lower than its competitors and could emerge from a slump with even greater market share.
He said computer sales are likely to pick up almost as soon as the slowdown is over, driven by the advent of broadband internet access and the sharply lower cost of the new generation of microchips with speeds above 1 gigahertz.
