Gaelscoileanna, the co-ordinating body for education through the medium of Irish, has criticised the Department of Education's decision not to fund a proposed new Irish school, Gaelscoil Mhainistir na Corann, in Midleton, Co Cork, even though the school met the Department's funding criteria writes Pol O Muiri.
The Department refused funding on the grounds that an Irish-language stream for infant classes already existed in another local school.
Gaelscoil Mhainistir na Corann is due to open in September.
