The Special Criminal Court has fixed December 1st for the trial of five men charged in connection with attempted robbery near Ashford, Co Wicklow, last May, when a man was shot dead by gardai.

The five are: Mr Pascal Burke (34), of Marrowbone Lane; Mr Stephen Carney (22), of Doouse; Mr Saoirse Breatnach (19), of Cypress Court, Ballybrack; Mr Philip Forsythe (24), of Rollins Villas, Sallynoggin; and Mr Danny McAllister (43), of Cromlech Fields, Ballybrack. They are charged with having firearms with intent to endanger life at Cullenmore, Ashford, on May 1st, 1998. They are also charged with having the guns with intent to commit a robbery on the same date. The five were remanded in custody.
