Communities across the southern United States are today attempting to recover after the deadliest round of tornadoes in decades killed 57 people.
Tennessee counted 32 dead, Arkansas 13, Kentucky seven and Alabama five. Damage was likely to be in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
Some storms on Tuesday night featured hurricane-force winds, and the US Storm Prediction Center said at least two tornadoes had wind speeds from 165 to 200 miles per hour.
In Tennessee the storms were the worst in terms of deaths since 1974 when storms killed 47 lives, the Nashville Tennesseanreported.
