Eithne Kenny, the mother of the Taoiseach Enda Kenny, has died. She was 93

She died in Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar this morning surrounded by her family.

She is survived by her five children, four sons John, Henry, Enda and Kieran and her daughter Marie Hastings.

In a short statement released this morning the Government announced her death and extended its condolences to the Kenny family.

Fine Gael Parliamentary Party Chairman Charlie Flanagan also offered his his
offered sympathy to the Taoiseach and his family.

Mr Flanagan said: "The thought and prayers of the entire parliamentary party
are with them all during this difficult time."

Tanaiste and Labour Party Leader Eamon Gilmore has offered his sympathies to
the Taoiseach and the Kenny family.

Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams expressed his sympathy to the Taoiseach on the death of Mrs Kenny and the Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin also expressed his condolences.

Mrs Kenny was actively involved in the political life of the county for more than 60 years and was described by friends as a woman of great spirit, encouragement and generosity.

Funeral arrangements will be released when they have been finalised.
