Air tight wrappings foiled an attempt to flush £37,000 worth of ecstasy tablets down a pub toilet during a drugs search, Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard yesterday.
Robert May (27) was arrested in a toilet cubicle but a major drug dealer, the owner of the 1,500 ecstasy tablets, escaped.
May was trying to flush the drugs packages away but the air tight wrappings kept them afloat in the toilet bowl. May, of the South Circular Road, Dublin, had his sentence adjourned to July 1st after he admitted obstructing gardai during the search on September 13th, 1994.
Sgt Michael Whelan said a major drug dealer was seen stopping his car outside Ryan Brothers bar near Guinness's brewery. On seeing the gardai, the drug dealer ran into the bar and downstairs to the toilet area.
Gardai were obstructed at the door to the toilets and the dealer escaped. May was arrested in a cubicle and the drugs recovered.
