MANCHESTER police yesterday discovered the body of a five year old girl, believed to be Rosemary McCann, a member of the Irish travelling community, who has been missing for two months. The body, hidden in a bag, was found in an alleyway near derelict land, about a mile from the missing girl's home.
Although Det Supt Ron Gaffey said the body had not been officially identified, he confirmed that the child was wearing red pyjama trousers; Rosemary, who was abducted from her bedroom in her mother's house in Old ham, was last seen wearing similarly coloured pyjamas and a silver coat.
Det Supt Gaffey said the cause of death and how long the body had been hidden was not yet known.
Two days after Rosemary's disappearance Mr Andrew Pountley (31), a disc jockey from Oldham, who is known to her family, was charged with her abduction. Debt Supt Gaffey refused to state if police were looking for anybody else.
