Simon Davies cracked an 86th-minute winner as Tottenham Hotspur claimed a place in the last eight of the League Cup tonight with a 2-1 win at Fulham.

The all-London, all-premier league clash looked to be heading for extra time before Davies pounced to settle a tight fourth-round tussle at Craven Cottage.

Glenn Hoddle's side went ahead after 15 minutes when Ukrainian striker Serhiy Rebrov, recalled to the starting lineup, crashed home a half-volley from the edge of the area after Teddy Sheringham nodded the ball into his path.

Fulham pushed forward for an equaliser and it came three minutes into stoppage time at the end of the first half.

Steve Finnan was the provider, curling in a cross from the right which an unmarked Barry Hayles headed past Neil Sullivan.

The second half was evenly contested, but Spurs almost sneaked ahead after 76 minutes.

Rebrov danced down the byline and crossed to Sheringham, whose close range effort was instinctively blocked by Fulham goalkeeper Maik Taylor.

The warning went unheeded, and four minutes from time right wing-back Davies gleefully lashed the winner home after Ledley King headed the ball back from a free-kick.

Arsenal, Newcastle United, Bolton Wanderers, Watford, Sheffield Wednesday, Blackburn Rovers and Chelsea are the other seven sides in the last eight of the competition, whose winners qualify for next season's UEFA Cup.
