The visit of the US aircraft earner John F. Kennedy to Dun Laoghaire last week resulted in Iarnrod Eireann's DART service setting a record by carrying 250,000 passengers in a single day.
Returns show that this number of passengers - the highest since the DART was introduced 12 years ago - was carried on Thursday evening as Dun Laoghaire's US Independence Day celebrations attracted a huge crowd to the port. Approximately 100,000 travelled between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m.
