There were opening nights all over town on Tuesday night but for the dance world the most exciting was certainly the Dance Theatre of Ireland's production of Tombs at the Tivoli theatre. It was an interesting piece and not only because it was the first chance for many of the audience to see the work of Dutch choreographers, Suzy Blok and Christopher Steel, who worked with Robert Connor and Loretta Yurick to create the dance work. It was also a chance to hear Pol Brennan's thrilling score - he is one of the founder members of Clannad.
At a party hosted by the Royal Netherlands embassy after the show, Pol was gathering lots of compliments from the likes of musician Paul Brady and Dutch cultural attache Pieter Langerberg. The dancing community was represented by Teenagh Cunningham, the new administrator of the Association of Professional Dancers in Ireland, who is busy planning a new health clinic for dancers, and Ann Campbell-Crawford, who is busy rehearsing the Irish Junior Ballet company for its performances in the Samuel Beckett theatre from March 20th.
