Northern Ballet Theatre's last production based on Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol was a great success at the Grand Opera House, Belfast. Now NBT's new artistic director, Stefano Giannetti, brings another Dickens adaptation to the same venue. Great Expectations (featuring Charlotte Talbot and Daniel de Andrade, right), is performed in two acts to the music of Elgar, with costumes and set by award-winning designer Benita Roth.
The ballet traces Pip's adventures, including his treatment by the haunted Miss Havisham and his first romantic encounter with Estella. Giannetti's choreography is said to take the main characters from the much loved classic to give the essence of Dickens's story of revenge, deception and unrequited love.
