A compensation claim against the RUC by a cousin of the Sinn Fein president, Mr Gerry Adams, was adjourned yesterday until the new year. David Adams (39), from west Belfast, is claiming aggravated and exemplary damages for injuries allegedly received during a police assault after they foiled an IRA murder attempt on a senior detective in 1994.
Adams, who is serving a 25-year sentence for his part in the murder conspiracy was later treated in hospital for a broken leg, two fractured ribs, a punctured lung and multiple cuts and bruises. The RUC has denied liability.
