Scotland and Ireland were today urged to sue European football's governing body UEFA after losing out to Austria and Switzerland in the bid to stage the 2008 European Championship.
Kenny Dalglish, Scotland's most capped player, with 102 appearances, claims an 11th-hour Swiss-led stitch-up to change bid-ranking criteria and voting procedure let the Alpine countries win the vote.
"It is crystal clear that Switzerland have drawn up the rules here. It's also clear they have done so at the last minute," he told the Daily Mail Friday.
"UEFA is left with a credibility rating of zero - and below."
He says UEFA should be made to pay for the £1.5 million pounds the Scots and Irish spent on their bid.
"If I was responsible for the Scotland and Ireland bid I'd sue UEFA for misreperesentation," he added.
"This stinks of corruption," Dalglish claimed.
Scotland and Ireland were excluded from the final list of preferred bidders just before Friday's vote.
It was suggested Scotland and Ireland were left off the recommended list because of reservations over three stadia being used in Glasgow and because of the Irish government's perceived lack of commitment.
Hungary eventually finished second in the voting, ahead of Greece and Turkey.
The Turks and Greeks were also furious with UEFA boss Lennart Johansson who they claim was asleep during their presentation.
