IT was Wednesday afternoon in Leinster House. The debate on PfP was about to start. The protesters were at the gate. The opponents in the chamber, all 30 of them, were at the ready. Suddenly there was an explosion. Darkness descended. Smoke wafted down the corridors of power. Lights went out, computers crashed. Members quaked. The Army rushed in.
But rest easy, it was not a coup. The ESB substation at Fisheries Yard, beside the Labour Party annexe, had blown up. It took a few minutes for the internal generator to kick in.
