THE Irish Cancer Society has announced a new nursing service to provide counselling for cancer patients and their families during diagnosis and treatment. The nursing service, the first of its kind in Ireland, will be funded by the proceeds of Daffodil Day, to be held this year on Friday March 22nd.
The announcement was made at the Daffodil Day campaign launch in Dublin yesterday. The Minister of State for Health, Mr Brian O'Shea, presented the first three nurses appointed to the new service with daffodil badges.
The Irish Cancer Society said it hoped to match last year's record collection of £1 million to fund its free, homecare nursing network and its other services for people with cancer.
