Sean Cuddy has criticised the lack of communication and politics of the Laois County Board after he received news yesterday morning that the County Executive had voted in favour of terminating his contract as Laois senior hurling manager.
Cuddy, who still had two years of a three year term to serve, was sacked on Tuesday night but the move has yet to be ratified by the County Board which is due to meet later this month.
County chairman, Dick Miller, had voted to reinstate Cuddy for another year but with the vote tied at five-five, a conflict developed between Miller and Laois Hurling Committee chairman Fr Nick Flavan.
For reasons unknown to Cuddy, Miller subsequently used his casting vote - chairmen are entitled to issue the deciding vote in such circumstances - to oust the Camross man and propel former Offaly star Pat Delaney to the manager’s hot-seat.
"I'm very disappointed with the chairman, Dick Miller," Cuddy told ireland.comthis afternoon.
"I can’t see how one man can vote one way and then suddenly change his mind. It’s shocking. If it’s not right at the top then it can’t be right in any place here in Laois."
"Dick Miller had given me his support some weeks ago. There had been nothing said to me about my position. It’s a very sad place here in Laois."
"I knew nothing," explained Cuddy. "I have nothing against the boys looking for someone else. . .but explain to me how a chairman can vote two different ways."
"I hope Pat (Delaney) does get the job, he’s a good fellow."
"There will be severe words spoken before this all ends," warned Cuddy.
