Manufacturing production rose 0.9 per cent in the year to February, according to provisional figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) today.
Output in the "modern" sector – which includes the high-technology and chemical industries - was up 3.2 per cent over the period.
However, output in the "traditional" sector decreased by 4.1 per cent over the same period.
Over the three-month period between December to February 2008, the seasonally-adjusted volume of industrial production was 2 per cent higher than the preceding three-month period.
Turnover in February was 1.5 per cent lower when compared with the same month in 2007.
