The seasonally adjusted volume of industrial production in Ireland fell 4.5 per cent for the three months between August to October, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

On an annual basis production for all industries in October 2004 was 5.8 per cent lower than the corresponding period last year.

The "Modern Sector", comprising a number of high-technology and chemical sectors, showed an annual fall in production for October 2004 of 9 per cent, while an increase of 1.8 per cent was recorded in the "Traditional" sector.

The seasonally adjusted industrial turnover for manufacturing industries was down 1.1 per cent in the three-month period August to October 2004 when compared with the preceding three-month period.
