A young man is in a serious condition after being hit by a car on the Navan Road in Dublin.

A 17-year-old youth is in a serious condition after being hit by a car on the Navan Road in Dublin on Thursday night.

Gardaí from Cabra were called to the scene by Baggot Road and the Ashtown roundabout junction following reports of a serious collision. It is understood the incident occurred at 10pm.

The teenager was seriously injured in the incident and was taken to Beaumont hospital.

The Navan Road outbound was closed for a period of time following the crash and diversions were put in place.

The road has since re-opened.
