International conference on youth justice at UCC
A two-day international conference, Youth Justice 2008: Measuring Compliance with International Standards, will take place on April 3rd and 4th next at the Centre for Criminal Justice and Human Rights, Faculty of Law, in UCC. Its aim is to consider the latest international research on youth justice in the light of international children's rights standards.
Speakers are coming from Asia, Africa, the US, Australia, Canada, and Europe as well as from Ireland to present their perspectives on law, policy and practice in youth justice.
The Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Thomas Hammarberg, will also address the conference.
It is being organised by Dr Ursula Kilkelly, senior lecturer in law in UCC, with the support of the Children Acts Advisory Board.

Migrant rights centre looking for intern
The Migrants Rights Centre Ireland (MRCI) is looking for a legal advocacy intern for a six-month volunteer placement. The role is to provide information and assistance regarding workplace exploitation to migrant workers and their families and to support the MRCI advocacy officer. The intern will be expected to work 25 hours a week, and will receive expenses.
Relevant induction and ongoing training will be provided to the successful candidatewho will gain valuable knowledge and experience in Irish employment law and practice. CVs, with a covering letter, should be sent to Raluca@mrci.ie before 5pm on Monday, March 10th.
Gearty Lecture in UCD
Professor Conor Gearty will give the John M Kelly memorial lecture on Thursday next, March 10th at 6.30 pm on "A Slow Death? The Plight of International Human Rights in an Age of Counter-Terrorism", in the Global Irish Institute in UCD.
