Women's lawyers group holds seminar
The Irish Women Lawyers Association is holding a seminar, Meeting the Challenges: New Ways of Doing Business, on December 5th in the Best Western Ashling Hotel, Parkgate Street, Dublin.
The speakers will be Karen Erwin, Mediators’ Institute of Ireland president; Joseph Maguire, solicitor; Paulyn Marrinan Quinn SC, and Tony O’Riordan of the Free Legal Aid Centres, on the Public Interest Law

Courts Service seeks legal researchers
The Courts Service has advertised for judicial researchers to provide legal research support to the judiciary.
Appointments are for a maximum of two years.
The successful candidates must have a law degree at a minimum standard of 2:1; an extensive knowledge of Irish law and the Irish legal system; the ability to use information technology; an extensive knowledge of modern research methods and materials; an ability to edit and proof-read documents, and an ability to identify legal issues and write concisely about them.
A good knowledge of Irish would be an advantage. Remuneration is €32,074 a year.
An application form and an information leaflet can be downloaded from the Courts Service website, www.courts. ie. The closing date for applications is December 11th.
Report on child detention
The Irish Penal Reform Trust will today publish a new report, Detention of Children in Ireland: International Standards and Best Practice.
Its recommendations include ending the detention of children in St Patrick’s Institution, extending the remit of the Ombudsman for Children to St Patrick’s, and improving child-protection procedures and practices where children are held.
Seminar on climate change
Minister for the Environment John Gormley will be among the speakers at a seminar entitled Climate Change and Copenhagen: What's on the Cards?, organised by the Irish Society for European Law on December 3rd at 6.30pm in the St Stephen's Green Hibernian Club.
Cork mediation group set up
A new group of solicitors and barristers in Cork has been set up to assist in settling disputes through mediation.
