DPP to give Mackey lecture in Trinity
The Director of Public Prosecutions, James Hamilton, will give the first of the Mackey lectures in the Robert Emmet lecture theatre in Trinity College Dublin on November 18th at 7pm on “Freedom of Information, Freedom of Inquiry”.
The Mackey Lectures are organised by the Trinity Long Room Hub (the university’s Arts and Humanities Research Institute) in conjunction with the Worth Library, the National Library, UCD and the HSE.

Mediators to hold annual conference
The Mediators Institute is holding its 11th annual conference on November 14th and 15th in the Radisson SAS Hotel in Stillorgan, Dublin.
It will open with a keynote speech from Peter Adler, president of the US-based Keystone Centre.
It continues with a series of workshops on family mediation, mediation in organisations and communities, commercial mediation and ethical issues.

Young solicitors to meet in Cork
The Society of Young Solicitors is holding a conference in Cork on November 21st on “Seeing through the recession”.
Speakers include Max Abrahamson of McCann FitzGerald, Gráinne Gleeson of Mason, Hayes and Curran and Keith O’Malley, career support adviser in the Law Society of Ireland.
The conference, including two nights in the Clarion Hotel in Cork and a black tie dinner, is €150.

One-day course in CPD award writing
A one-day intensive CPD (continuing professional development) course in award writing in commercial arbitration will take place on Wednesday November 25th at the RIAI building at 8 Merrion Square, Dublin 2.
Speakers will include barristers Peter Aeberli and Brian Hutchinson.
The course is aimed at those who have a knowledge of arbitration law and practise. Places are limited to 30. Further information on www.riai.ie.
Book on marine law published
A book on maritime law by Dr Ronan Long of NUI Galway has been published by Thomson Round Hall.
Running to 940 pages, Marine Resource Lawcosts €265.
Research for the book was supported by the Manahan Fellowship (2002-2004) funded under the marine research, technology, development and Innovation (RTDI) measure of the National Development Plan 2000-2006, administered by the Marine Institute.
