Seminar to discuss updates in adoption law
On Monday next, November 1st, the Law Society is holding a seminar from 2 to 5.15pm on recent developments in adoption law and practice, designed by childcare law practitioners.
Speakers include Katharine Kelleher of Comyn Kelleher Tobin solicitors, Cork, and Catherine Burke, HSE principal social worker, Dublin, and the seminar will be chaired by Geoffrey Shannon, deputy director of education in the Law Society and author of Child Law.
The seminar costs €168 or €128 to those eligible for discounts, and continuous professional development (CPD) points are available.
The society is also offering a Diploma in Family Law on Saturdays, which started on October 16th last, and will be examined on March 26th, 2011. It takes place at the Law Society from 10am to 1pm, and on webcast. The course costs €2,150.
New Irish course in King's Inns
From January to July 2011 King's Inns will offer advanced part-time courses to enable participants to apply for vacancies for Irish-speaking legal translators and lawyer-linguists in EU Institutions. Candidates must demonstrate their ability in Irish during an entrance exam on December 15th.

Young solicitors' Galway conference
The Society of Young Solicitors Ireland are holding their autumn conference from November 12th-14th next at the Ardilaun Hotel, Galway.
Speakers include Tom O'Malley, barrister and senior lecturer in NUI Galway. and John Kennedy, barrister.

Conference on planning changes
The annual Thomson Reuters/Round Hall Planning and Environmental Law Conference will take place on Saturday, November 6th, from 9am to 1pm in the Law Library Distillery Building, Church St, Dublin.
The conference will discuss the implications of the new Planning and Development (Amendment) Act 2010 and other new legislation such as the Nama legislation and Arbitration Act 2010 and speakers include Garrett Simons SC, Eamon Galligan SC, Dermot Flanagan SC, Tom Flynn BL and Deborah Spence of Arthur Cox.
The conference will be chaired by the former chief justice, Mr Justice Ronan Keane, and it is sponsored by Arthur Cox.
