Shots were fired at two houses in a Dunboyne housing estate shortly before midnight on Sunday night.
Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident which took place in the Woodview Heights estate at about 11.30pm.
No one was injured and the scene has been preserved for a technical examination.
A short time later, gardaí were called to the scene of a house fire in Clonuff, Broadford in Co Kildare. A man and a women were taken from the house and arrested under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. No one was injured in the fire.
Gardaí refused to say whether they are linking the two incidents.
