Death of woman in Cavan not treated as suspicious

Gardai receive result of postmortem on 54-year-old found with head injuries

The death of a woman who was found with head injuries outside a Cavan town apartment is not being treated as suspicious, gardaí have said after receiving the result of a postmortem.

Gardaí began an investigation into the death after the 54-year-old’s body was discovered at 6.35am on Thursday in the Kempton Court complex.

Emergency services had attended the scene and administered medical attention but she was later pronounced dead at Cavan General Hospital, gardaí said in a statement.

The scene has been preserved for a forensic and technical examination and an incident room has been established at Cavan Garda station. A Garda family liaison officer has been appointed.

Postmortem

The deceased, who has not been identified, was removed to the mortuary at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where a postmortem was carried out on Thursday afternoon by Dr Michael Curtis, deputy State pathologist.

Investigating officers are appealing to anyone who was in the Kempton Court or Drumalee areas of Cavan town between 3am and 7am to contact them. Anyone with information is asked to contact Cavan station at (049) 436 8800 or the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111.
