Teenager charged over robbery of Cork taxi driver

A teenager has been remanded on bail after he was charged in connection with an incident where a taxi driver was attacked and robbed and had his taxi stolen in Cork last month.

Tony Delaney (18), Spring Lane Halting Site, Blackpool, was charged with robbing John Forde (59) at Hawthorn Mews, Dublin Hill in Cork on September 19th.

Garda Kevin O’Donnell gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution in relation to Mr Delaney when he brought him before Cork District Court yesterday evening.

Gardaí had no objection to bail once certain conditions were met, including that Mr Delaney refrain from any intoxicants and abide by a curfew at his home address.

Judge Leo Malone remanded Mr Delaney on bail with conditions to appear again at Cork District Court on November 4th next for the DPP's directions in the matter.

Gardaí in Cork yesterday released without charge a 16-year-old youth arrested for questioning about the incident and will now prepare a file on the matter for the DPP.
