A 16-year-old girl who injured her right hand outside a Justin Bieber concert at The O2 in Dublin last year has recieved a settlement of €7,000.
The Circuit Civil Court heard Nadia Burke was with other teenagers outside the arena last February trying to “catch a glimpse” of the pop star as cars were moving in and out of gates which were being operated by security staff.
Ms Burke, who was 15 at the time, had been pushed forward and a security man had closed the gate on her hand. She had thought her hand was bruised and would recover quickly.
Barrister Angus Buttanshaw, counsel for the girl, said her hand was still sore a few days later and her mother, Nicola Burke, of St Andrew's Court, Fenian Street, Dublin, had taken her to the emergency department of Temple Street Children's Hospital, Dublin,
Circuit Court President Mr Justice Raymond Groarke heard X-rays had first revealed a possible fracture and her wrist had been put in plaster.
She had been referred to a fracture clinic where further X-rays had come back clear. The plaster was removed and her wrist placed in a splint for several weeks. Her wrist had been painful for a couple of months.
Ms Burke, through her mother, had sued Amphitheatre Ireland Ltd, which trades as The O2, and also Aiken Promotions Ireland, of Holles Street, Dublin.
Judge Groarke approved a settlement offer of €7,000.
