Woman accused of shooting three in Dublin granted bail

A woman who allegedly shot an eight-month-old baby, his mother (29) and a teenage boy (17) in west Dublin last week has been granted bail.

Garda Michael Parry Jones told Judge David McHugh at Blanchardstown District Court it will be alleged that Charlene Donovan was heard saying to her father: "Daddy, get me the gun and I will blow them away".

Ms Donovan, (23), Parlickstown Gardens, Mulhuddart is charged with possession of a shotgun with intent to endanger life at Parlickstown Gardens, Mulhuddart ,on December 11th.

Garda Michael Parry Jones told Judge McHugh he arrested Ms Donovan at 3.20pm on December 13th at Blanchardstown Garda station. He said she was later charged with possession of a shotgun with intent to endanger life.

Garda Jones said he was objecting to bail due to the nature and degree of seriousness of the offence. He said the Donovan family is involved in a dispute with the Collins family and that both families live in Parlickstown Gardens.

Garda Jones said it will be alleged that on December 11th, members of both families were out on the street and it will be alleged that Charlene Donovan was heard saying to her father: “Daddy, get me the gun and I will blow them away”.

Garda Jones said it will be alleged that Ms Donovan was later seen holding a gun and she discharged it spraying pellets across the road. He said she allegedly discharged two shots.

Garda Jones said Lynn Doyle, an eight month old boy and a teenage male (17) were injured in the shooting.

He said the baby had just been released from the National Childrens Hospital and he had suffered a fractured ankle and the 17-year old had received injuries to his abdomen and both legs.

Garda Jones said there had been a number of incidents involving both families over the past 18 months. He added that last week the Donovan family’s house had been set on fire and the gardaí were treating this as suspicious.

Garda Jones told the court it will be alleged that three shotgun rounds were found at the scene and that a sawn off shotgun was later found in the garden of 2 Parlickstown Gardens.

Ms Donovan’s counsel asked the judge to grant bail. He said his client is 23, has intellectual disabilities and is illiterate. He said she would refrain from living in Dublin if granted bail.

Judge McHugh remanded Ms Donovan in custody with consent to her own bail of €3,000 and on condition that she sign on daily at a local Garda station, that she reside at an address, that she surrender her passport, that she observe a curfew from 10pm to 7am and that she have no contact with the injured parties and members of the Collins family.

He set a remand date but ordered that it not be made public.
