SIR Colin Cowdrey is to chair a small committee of elite sports stars, past and present, to "enthuse, inspire and encourage" Britain's youngsters, Mr Major said in his keynote speech. The Prime Minister described his friend and sporting hero as a "legendary England cricketer and man for all seasons".
Mr Major wants Sir Colin to "enthuse, inspire and encourage a love of sport which can live with those children for life". The cricketing legend made the first of his 22 Test centuries in Melbourne in 1954-1955 after being a surprise, but successful, inclusion in Len Hutton's Ashes regaining tour party.
