The SDLP leader, Mr John Hume was among eight members of the credit union movement honoured yesterday as part of a new awards scheme run by the organisation.
The awards for outstanding service to the union were hosted by the president of the Irish League of Credit Unions, Mr Frank Lynch, at a celebration lunch in Dublin yesterday
Mr Hume received the award for his work with Derry Credit Union. Also honoured were the late Jack Carney, Clonard, Aingil Conway, Donore, Father Paddy Gallagher, Clones CUL, Mr Patrick Martin, Ballina more, Ms Kathleen Matthews, The Premier, Navan Road, the late Gus Murray of Baldoyle and Portmarnock and the late Brian Sherry of Castleblayney.
