Australia's Craig Parry won the 2002 New Zealand Open by one stroke after a thrilling battle that went down to the wire today.
Parry secured a birdie on the last hole for an 11-under 273, one shot ahead of local hero Michael Campbell, and compatriots Steve Alker and Stephen Leaney.
Campbell looked to have the edge as he led Parry by one shot with two holes to play, but a double-bogey put paid to his chances despite a valiant birdie at the end.
The tournament's star attraction, world number one Tiger Woods, again had a mixed round, ending with a two-under 69 to trail the winner by six shots.
Woods looked as if he could make one of his renowned last round charges when he eagled the 12th to get within four of the lead.
But a bogey on the next hole signalled the end of any realistic chance he had of catching the leading group.
Woods' four round total of 279 gave him a share of sixth place, with New Zealander Stephen Scahill and Australian Nick O'Hern.
Ireland's Eddie Barr carded a final round 72 to leave him 10 shots off the winner while Korean-born teenager Jae An ended his first major tournament at the tail of the field on 295, after a final eight-over 79.
