The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Brian Cowen, is expected to go ahead with his address to the UN General Assembly in New York tonight despite today’s plane crash in the borough of Queens.
A spokeswoman for the Department for Foreign Affairs said it is monitoring the situation and is in regular contact with the Irish consulate in New York.
She said there has been no indication to suggest the Minister’s address would not go ahead.
The Department has no information on whether there were any Irish among the passengers of the American airline, she said.
