Taoiseach Brian Cowen has said he is confident the Government will survive tomorrow's confidence motion in the Dáil.
“The Government is united in pursuing policies that are necessary to establish recovery as quickly as possible and we’ll take the opportunity to set out the decisions we have been taking, the basis for those decisions and our plans for the future", he told reporters in Dublin today.
Mr Cowen said he felt the Government would carry tomorrow's vote.
“We welcome that opportunity and I believe there will be support in the House for the confidence motion in the Government,” the Taoiseach said.
Minister for Health Mary Harney echoed Mr Cowen's sentiment, saying she had confidence in Mr Cowen's leadership, and would be giving him and the Government her full support. She added that she believed the Government would see out its full term.
Asked her opinion of the poll which said 57 per cent of voters wanted a general election within the next year, Minister for Health Mary Harney said:
"I think the Dail should run its course. The government should not be distracted from economical issues. People are suffering. The task ahead is to see the country returning to growth and raising money. Unfortunately we've had to make serious cutbacks".
