A GERMAN national who has been living in a car in west Cork for the past few weeks had two hatchets, a knife and a petrol bomb in his car, according to gardai who arrested him after a row.
Mr Andres Koble, of no fixed abode, appeared before Midleton District Court yesterday charged with nine offences, including careless driving and wrecking a cell in Midleton Garda station on December 27th.
Judge John Clifford adjourned the case to allow Mr Koble to get a solicitor and translator. He said he had been in contact with the German embassy and they had agreed to provide them for him.
Bail was set at £2,000 and he was remanded in custody to appear before Carrigaline District Court on January 9th.
The charges related to an incident in Connolly Street, Midleton, on December 27th and included Mr Koble having a petrol bomb intending to use it to damage a car belonging to Ellen McGrath; using threatening and abusive words and behaviour; producing a hatchet to intimidate James McGrath; having a knife; having two hatchets made or adapted to cause injury; threatening James McGrath with a hatchet when he approached his car; causing £2,350.25 worth of damage to a car belonging to Ellen McGrath; driving without due care and attention on Connolly Street, Midleton, and damaging a cell in Midleton Garda station.
Mr Koble appeared in court and spoke through an interpreter. Gardai brought the weapons into court but they were not produced during the hearing.
