A drug dealer who hid £25,000 worth of cannabis under his mattress and £3,500 behind a tile in his toilet has had his sentence adjourned by Judge Frank O'Donnell.

Stephen Farrelly admitted to gardai he supplied drugs to his clients in Glasnevin Cemetery. Farrelly (27), single and unemployed, of New Cabra Road, Cabra, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to three counts of the possession of cannabis resin for supply.

Garda Michael Tracey told Mr Michael O'Higgins, prosecuting, that on the evening of October 28th, 1997, gardai stopped Farrelly on the North Circular Road and seized 19 individually wrapped "deals" of cannabis resin. Gardai then searched his home and found £10,000 worth of cannabis resin in four nine-ounce bars hidden in his bedroom.

Det Garda Padraig Moran told Mr O'Higgins that on August 11th, 1998 gardai searched Farrelly's uncle's house in Lower Dominic Street and seized another nine-ounce bar of cannabis worth £10,000. It was wrapped in tape and concealed in the back of an armchair.

Gardai also recovered £3,550 in cash behind a tile in the toilet. Farrelly and his girlfriend were in the house at the time of the raid. Garda Tracey told Mr O'Connell that on April 1st, 1998 gardai found 58 grams of cannabis resin worth £500 under Farrelly's mattress. They also recovered £925 in cash. He admitted to having the drugs for supply.

Ms Isobel Kennedy, defending, asked Judge O'Donnell to take into consideration the fact that Farrelly had no previous convictions. She said he was not making any serious money from his supplies and had a chronic alcohol problem.

Ms Kennedy added he also received serious threats from his suppliers and had every reason to be afraid. She asked for the case to be adjourned for Farrelly to complete a Bridge Project course he is taking under probation supervision.
