Convicted murderer Lee Clegg is entitled to a retrial, the Court of Appeal in Belfast was told yesterday. The paratrooper's lawyer said the new evidence presented on his behalf could not be dismissed as unbelievable.
Mr Anthony Scrivener QC told the three appeal judges: "My client wants nothing more than a retrial. He wants the opportunity to put his case again with all the new evidence."
He was closing his legal submissions at the end of Clegg's third appeal since his conviction for murdering Ms Karen Reilly (18) in west Belfast in 1990 when soldiers fired 19 shots into a stolen car.
Crown counsel makes closing submissions today.
