The Supreme Court is expected on Wednesday to set a date for the hearing of an appeal by Dublin West TD Mr Liam Lawlor against a High Court order that he serve a second seven-day jail sentence and pay a £5,000 fine.

Mr Justice Smyth imposed the jail sentence and fine on Mr Lawlor on July 31st last for failing to obey previous orders to provide the Flood tribunal with various financial records. In January last, Mr Lawlor served seven days in jail and was fined £10,000, with costs estimated at nearly £20,000, after being found in contempt for not complying with the orders.

In early August, the Supreme Court granted a stay on Mr Lawlor serving the second seven-day sentence pending the outcome of the appeal. When the case came before the Supreme Court yesterday, the Chief Justice, Mr Justice Keane, said it was not possible at the moment to indicate a date for the appeal hearing but he listed the case for Wednesday next when, he said, it was hoped a date could be given.
