A teenage boy has been remanded in custody after a court heard the South Dublin County Council would evict his family if he were allowed home on bail.
The Dublin Children's Court heard the boy's family have been warned that they would be put out of their council home as a result of his behaviour.
Garda James Reidy, of Lucan station, told Judge Bryan Smyth he had strenuous objections to granting bail to the 16-year-old, whom he had arrested for handling stolen goods.
The boy had already been on bail when he was arrested; has continued to commit offences while on bail; and has been in breach of court orders. "The main issue would be that if he is given bail and released home, he would have no home to go to."
He handed in a letter to the judge from South Dublin County Council, which stated that the boy's family would be evicted if he was let home again.
Defence solicitor Mr John Quinn said he had been instructed to apply for bail, saying the boy could reside with an aunt.
Judge Smyth refused bail, and remanded the teenager in custody until next Friday. He said the question of bail could be revisited then.
