A teenage boy, who has gone out of control through alcohol abuse, has been ordered by a court to remain sober and obey his mother's house rules or else he would be detained.

Judge Patrick Clyne heard at the Children's Court yesterday that the 16-year-old from south Dublin had pleaded guilty to two burglaries and another offence for being intoxicated to such an extent that he was a danger to himself and others.

During one of the burglaries, on January 16th last in the Milltown area in Dublin, a laptop computer and a PlayStation console were stolen from a house, the court heard. In the second burglary, also in Milltown, five days later, the teenager stole sets of keys that he found in the house.

Solicitor Michelle Finan, defending, said the boy's mother felt that he had gone out of control from alcohol abuse and she wanted an order to be made to compel him to remain sober.

The mother also wanted her son, who had been held in custody pending the hearing, to be ordered by the court to obey the rules of her house.
