Garda and Customs officers expect to make further seizures of counterfeit fashion goods and pirated music and video recordings following two seizures of fake fashion items worth an estimated £124,000 in Dublin, writes Jim Cusack, Security Correspondent.
In the past week, Customs and Garda teams have seized fake fashion items bearing top designer labels and popular brands. Jeans with the names of Versace, Dolce and Gabanna and Armani worth an estimated £24,000 retail, were found in a house in Springfield, Tallaght, last week by Customs officers, who had been investigating an African man. He was released while Customs officers prepared a file for the DPP. On Monday the Garda National Investigation Unit raided a warehouse at Castleforbes Industrial Estate in Dublin docks and uncovered an operation where brand names including Reebok, Levi 501, Fila and Ellesse, were being embroidered on to jeans, shirts and jumpers.
Two people were questioned but were also released while a prosecution file is prepared.
