College lecturer Mr Denis Riordan, who was jailed for a week by the Supreme Court after he described three Supreme Court judges as "corrupt", was ordered yesterday to pay legal costs incurred by the Taoiseach, the Government and the State relating to an application made to the court last Friday.
The court rejected Mr Riordan's claims that judgments and orders made against him were defective and also rejected his argument that he should be heard by a "full" Supreme Court consisting of five judges.
Mr Diarmaid Rossa Phelan, for the State parties, yesterday told the Supreme Court he was instructed to apply for the costs in relation to last week's applications.
The Chief Justice, Mr Ronan Keane, asked Mr Riordan had he any submissions to make about the costs application.
Mr Riordan said two of the judges who had heard his applications had been involved in "giving defective judgments".
Mr Justice Keane, who sat with Mr Justice Frank Murphy and Mr Justice Adrian Hardiman, said the court was satisfied the State parties were entitled to their costs.
