Corrs score first for an Irish band in British charts

The Corrs have become the first Irish band to reach No 1 and No 2 simultaneously in the British album charts

The Corrs have become the first Irish band to reach No 1 and No 2 simultaneously in the British album charts. Talk On Corners went in at No 1, while Forgiven Not Forgotten reached No 2 in the charts announced on Sunday.

Talk On Corners, which was released in October 1997, replaced the British band Blur's album 13 at No 1. The album has been in the British Top Ten since June last year and has occupied the No 1 position "a dozen times", a band spokesman said. Worldwide the albums have, together, sold more than 10 million copies. In the Republic, combined sales of the two albums have exceeded 500,000 copies. Forgiven Not Forgotten was released in October 1995.

The band, made up of three sisters, Andrea, Sharon and Caroline Corr, and their brother, Jim, picked up the award for Best International Band at the Brit Awards, the British equivalent of the Grammies, in February.

All four are in Ireland for a month's break, after a tour of the United States. While in the US they supported the Rolling Stones at five concerts. They also appeared on the David Letterman Show and Saturday Night Live.
