The danger of falls in the home was highlighted yesterday by the Dublin City Coroner, Dr Brian Farrell. He said that 20 fatalities dealt with by the Coroner's Court over the past two years had involved falls in the home.
Dr Farrell was commenting after an inquest into the death of Mr Joseph Quinn (65), who fell down stairs in his home at Clondalkin on June 18th last and died in St James's Hospital on July 3rd as a result of his injuries. The post-mortem examination revealed that Mr Quinn died of a severe head injury and Dr Farrell recorded a verdict of accidental death.
