Details of the 1999 Guinness Cork Jazz Festival were announced simultaneously at receptions in Cork and Dublin on Tuesday. There is more than jazz on the agenda this year - as one of the eight millennium festivals, street theatre, Leeside frivolities and, of course, fireworks will be thrown into the mix. One of the world's finest jazz funk tenor saxaphonists, Ray Gaskins, was at James's Gate with blues singer Mary Stokes (both above), to announce the programme, which includes Courtney Pine, the Mingus Big Band, the Roy Hargrove, Dave Holland, Russell Malone and the Chuchu Valdez Quintet, to name but a few. The festival runs from Tuesday, October 19th, to Sunday, October 24th.
