Cannabis worth £30,000 and ecstasy tablets with a street value of £7,000 were seized by the Cork City Drugs Squad at the weekend following a surveillance operation that led to the arrest of five men.
They were released after questioning, and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Surveillance was mounted for six hours on a city-centre apartment on Saturday during which the arrests were made. One man said to be in his late teens and three others in their 20s were questioned at the Bridewell Garda station.
The fifth man was taken to Mayfield Garda station and was released yesterday without charge.
On Friday night members of the West Cork Divisional Drugs Squad searched a public house in Kinsale and seized 100 ecstasy tablets valued at £1,000 as well as £100 worth of cannabis. A man in his 40s who was arrested was released after questioning.
A file will also be sent to the DPP concerning this case.
The latest seizures brings to £194,000 the value of drugs confiscated by gardai in Co Cork during the past four weeks.
In Blackpool and Carrigaline, cannabis worth £13,000 was seized in two separate raids while in another raid on houses on the north side of Cork, cannabis worth £70,000 was recovered.
In the Monkstown area, a man behaving suspiciously was found to have £50,000 worth of cannabis in his possession. A motorcyclist who was questioned in the Ringaskiddy ferryport area had a stash of cannabis in his vehicle worth £30,000.
