After 155 years of being published as the Cork Examiner the paper will become the Examiner from today.
Cork Examiner publications has spent nearly £3 million on technology in the last three years and is using its new flexibility to distribute the paper nationally. From today outlets selling the newspaper will be 3,000 compared to 1,500. The decision to go national was taken after several years of increasing circulation, with the Examiner benefiting last year from the demise of the Irish Press Group.
Yesterday the editor, Mr Brian Looney, said the Examiner would give "a real alternative to newspapers produced, from a Dublin base or a UK perspective".
