ABOUT 40 women are suing Dr Jim Barry, of Cork, for damages including aggravated damages for alleged breach of contract, assault and battery, breach of confidentiality, deceit, negligence, breach of duty and breach of the women's constitutional right to privacy and bodily integrity.
The DPP has not made any decision yet on a file of complaints from 200 women in Cork following the discovery of videos the doctor allegedly made of his naked patients while carrying out medical procedures over 10 years.
Dr Barry (71) was struck off the register of doctors by the High Court pending a full investigation by the Medical Council in July 1995. Earlier this year he was arrested by gardai and questioned for almost 12 hours before being released without charge.
Two women have begun proceedings against the Cork born doctor in the Circuit Court and his assets worth £30,000 have been frozen. This case is expected to be heard in about 18 months' time.
Mr Kieran Coughlan of Stokes and Co, solicitors, said 16 other clients may sue the doctor.
