LONDON - The British Foreign Secretary, Mr Robin Cook, gave the first public indication yesterday that controversial arms sales to Indonesia may be halted. There was, however, no sign that Saudi Arabia or the Gulf states would be included as the new government formulated its approach to putting human rights at the centre of its foreign policy.
Mr Cook said he would ask "searching questions" about the supply of water cannon to Indonesia in the light of new evidence that British equipment was being used to break up demonstrations.
